Description

The βA7800 series are 3-terminal positive voltage regulators with fixed output voltages, made by IPRS Băneasa [1].

The I.P.R.S. Băneasa Full Line Condensed Catalog (1990) lists the βA7800 series, marked as preliminary data, with fixed output voltages of 5, 6, 8, 9, 12, 15, 18 and 24 V (βA7805 … βA7824), for a wide range of applications such as on-card regulation in logic systems, instrumentation and other solid-state electronic equipment [1]. The regulators have internal current limiting, thermal shutdown and safe area compensation; with adequate heat sinking they deliver more than 1 A of output current, and with external components they can also give adjustable output voltages and currents, or serve as the power pass element in precision regulators [1].

The catalog gives a storage temperature of −25…+125 °C, an operating junction temperature of at most +125 °C, a thermal resistance of the TO-220 package (without a heat sink) of at most 4 °C/W junction to case and 50 °C/W junction to ambient, and a maximum input voltage of 35 V for the 5…18 V types and 40 V for the 24 V type [1]. Pins (TO-220, front view): 1 input, 2 output, 3 GND [1].

The typical applications in the catalog (in the Gallery) are the fixed output regulator (C1 is required if the regulator is far from the power supply filter; C2 is not needed for stability but improves the transient response), the adjustable output regulator, with VO = VXX·(1 + R2/R1) + IQ·R2, and the current regulator, with IO = VO/R1 + IQ (printed „Ig”) [1].
