Description

The angular speed regulator is a mechanical speed variator with steel balls, for all mechanical drives requiring a continuous regulation of the angular speed, made by IPRS Băneasa [1].

The I.P.R.S. Băneasa Full Line Condensed Catalog (1990) explains that it works by the friction resulting from the pressure of the steel balls against the drive cones placed on the input and output spindles; to vary the input angular speed continuously, the position of the ball shafts is regulated through a snail drive gear, and depending on the position of the ball shafts relative to the main shaft, a continuous regulation ratio of up to 3:27 can be achieved [1].

The catalog gives dimensions of 270 × 200 × 210 mm, a continuous regulation ratio of at most 3:27, an output power of 0.3 kW at 1400 r.p.m., input speeds of 630 r.p.m. (minimal) to 1500 r.p.m. (maximal) and an output angular speed range of 430…4320 r.p.m. at 1500 r.p.m. input [1]. Its section drawing, with the input spindle, body, output spindle, 1 5/8-inch ball and regulation set screw numbered, is in the Gallery [1].
