Description

The CL-2 is an experimental laser communicator for the land forces and the navy, made by IFTAR in Bucharest-Măgurele [1]. A laser diode and an electronic module were fitted into a standard army binocular, which could still be used as a binocular; in winter field trials in fog, telephone links worked beyond the operators’ line of sight, while the specification asked for 1 km [1]. It was the first laser telephone equipment made in Romania; only the experimental model was built, and series production was planned at Electromagnetica [1].

It was meant to give a telephone link between two operators about 1,000 m apart; the list in section V.2.6 names Electromagnetica as its producer [2][3].
