Description

The R-1000 PEGAS is equipment for alerting and notifying the personnel of military units and commands, designed by the army research institute ICSITA and made by Electromagnetica [1]. It called people in to their unit or asked them to phone the duty staff for orders, alerting them selectively or in groups; it was the first pager-type system used in the army [1]. Each garrison had a short-wave transmitter of about 50 W, using direct-wave propagation with an omnidirectional antenna on a 12 m fibreglass mast; the pocket receivers, each with its own code, gave an intermittent audio signal when called [1]. The receivers measured 150 × 40 × 20 mm and ran for 3–4 days on NiCd batteries [1]. It was widely used and proved reliable [1].
