Description
The STIG is an information system for the border troops, designed by ICSITA, made by Electromagnetica in Bucharest [1]. It linked all border units hierarchically over the national telephone network, using voice-band modems to send coded, protected data instead of telephone reports; it was the first system of this kind made in Romania, and a large number of its units were made at Electromagnetica’s Special Production Factory [1].
It comprised communication equipment, computers, data transmitters, information displays and software, and was installed across the whole country; it replaced the leased lines used until about 1975 [2].
