Description

The RB 420 is a wire-wound resistor in a square ceramic body with four resistive elements of 1 Ω to 27 kΩ each (E12 and E24), rated 20 W in all, for general use [1]. The elements can be connected in eight ways, shown in fig. 16.15 as RB 420-1, RB 420-2a, RB 420-2b, RB 420-3a, RB 420-3b, RB 420-4, RB 420-5a and RB 420-5b [1].

The Agenda radioelectronistului names IPEE Electro-Argeș of Curtea de Argeș as the producer of all the resistors in its section on resistors made in Romania, in both editions [3][4]. Un secol de electronică în România says that the works, founded in 1972 as ICEP, took over the resistor lines that IPRS Băneasa made under a Thomson-CSF licence: the carbon resistors in 1973 and the wire-wound resistors in 1974 [5].

Coded as [3]:

Part Meaning
RB construction type: wire-wound resistor
420 by exception the number is 420 (four resistive elements) and not 020 (Pn = 20 W)

Romanian resistors are generally marked in clear, with the series code, the nominal value (100 = 100 Ω, 1 K = 1 kΩ, 1 M = 1 MΩ), the tolerance and the rated power [3].

The 1st edition (1983) calls the series RB and gives the same data [2].

Resistance: 4 × (1 Ω…27 kΩ). Dimensions in mm (fig. 16.14): body at most 44 long, section 18 ± 1 × 18 ± 1, leads Ø 0.8 ± 0.01, at least 30 long [1].
