Description

The PRAE-T is a microcomputer, the beginners’ version, which used a television set as display and an audio cassette recorder as external memory [1]. The PRAE family (PRAE-T, PRAE-L, PRAE-M) was developed at the Cluj-Napoca branch of the computer institute ITC; its name, from the Latin prefix for „before”, suggested a prelude to the use of computers in Romania [1]. The hardware let the lower members be turned into any higher member with the corresponding additions, and programs written for the lower members ran on the higher ones; the language was PRAE-BASIC, compatible with the ANSI and CMEA standards, with a precision of 11 significant digits [1]. According to the ITC section the PRAE went into production at Cluj; the section on the Fabrica de Memorii Timișoara says the factory assimilated the ITC Cluj prototype into production [1].
