History

IAEM (Întreprinderea de Aparate Electrice de Măsurat, the Enterprise for Electrical Measuring Instruments) in Timișoara was founded on 1 May 1970 [1] as the Fabrica de Aparate Electrice de Măsurat Timișoara [2]. It became one of the main Romanian manufacturers of meters for electricity, gas and water [1][2].

In 1989

In 1989 IAEM belonged to the Industrial Central for Automation Equipment (CIEA) of the Ministry of the Electrotechnical Industry, at 26 Calea Buziașului [3].

After 1989

As AEM Timișoara, the company produced about 1.3 million single-phase electricity meters a year around 2012 and exported to the European Union and the Middle East [1]. It stopped production in 2023; an insolvency procedure begun in 2024 ended in bankruptcy, and the 6-hectare site was put up for auction [2].
