Description

The F-1603 is a military field telephone designed by the army’s research institute ICSITA, made by Electromagnetica in Bucharest [1]. Compared with the licence-built ATI-52, the new field telephones had better transmitter and receiver capsules, more resistant to humidity, heat and cold, a lighter and stronger plastic case, alkaline batteries and an electronic ringer; besides local-battery working they also worked on central battery and CTA and on four wires, which made them compatible with automatic and secure exchanges [1].

It was made in four variants, able to work with local-battery, central-battery and automatic exchanges [2]. The new telephones had an electronic ringer, alkaline batteries, a Phenocord case and plastic front panel, and the CMD-1 differential microphone capsule and CRD-1 differential receiver capsule made by Electromagnetica [2].
