Description

The F-1650 is an automatic digital military field telephone exchange, made by Electromagnetica in Bucharest [1]. The F-1650, F-1651 and F-1652, designed by Electromagnetica’s Special Production Factory, were the first automatic digital telephone exchanges made in Romania for the army; besides ordinary automatic switching they offered more junctions to exchanges of the same or other types and switched lines and channels digitally, by pulse amplitude modulation, and their modular construction allowed the capacity to be chosen [1].

Section V.2.2 gives the capacities of the modular configurations: 16 subscribers for the F-1650, 32 for the F-1651 and 48 for the F-1652; with their many junctions they could be linked into networks over multiplexed telephone channels and radio relay, and they were installed in army units to measure traffic and behaviour in data and encrypted modes [2].
