Description

The TPS-79(R) is a Gap Filler radar for the Romanian Air Force, completing the radar surveillance of medium and low altitudes, built by Defense Engineering with Lockheed Martin (Syracuse, United States) in 2009–2012 [1]. Defense Engineering designed, made and tested the radar container, the communications subsystem, the remote control station and the active link terminal, integrated the radar into the national air command and control system (SCCAN) and managed the Romanian suppliers [1]. Nineteen units have been in service since 2012, now with the Air Force’s 76th Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Recognition Brigade „Dacia” [1]. The project for producing it in Romania was started by the army research agency ICSITA (then ACTTM) [1].
