Description

The RTM-LE is a mobile radiotelephone for electric locomotives, made by IEMI in Bucharest [1]. IEMI made radiotelephones under a licence bought in 1968 from the Swedish firm SRA (Svenska Radio Aktiebolaget), later modernised by IEMI itself; they were used in industry, on the railways, in rescue services, agriculture, transport, construction, by the police and the fire brigade [1].

IEMI’s production table lists 85 transceiver units made in 1973–1974, and accessories made until 1985, including 723 control units, 2,469 antennas, 2,790 switching boxes and 1,967 converters [2]. A transceiver unit cost 7,500 lei, a converter 2,500 lei and an antenna 1,400 lei (prices set in 1982) [3].
