Description

The PSS 16.00 is a series of polystyrene capacitors with tin foil, in a rectangular case with two radial leads, made to STAS 9067-71 for circuits in which several such capacitors give a wide range of time constants – oscillators, pulse generators, thermal compensators, digital electronic apparatus [1]. The Agenda radioelectronistului (2nd edition, 1989) lists two package codes, PSS 16.02 (2000–4700 pF) and PSS 16.03 (4700–12000 pF), both at 160 V with a category voltage of 140 V [1].

The Agenda does not say which works made the series: for the whole section on capacitors made in Romania it lists IPEE Electroargeș of Curtea de Argeș, Tehnoton of Iași, IIS Electronica of Bucharest and IPRS Băneasa as producers, and the 1st edition (1983) names only the first three [3][4]. It is listed here as made by IPRS Băneasa; Un secol de electronică în România says that the polystyrene capacitor line of IPRS passed to IPEE Curtea de Argeș in 1980 [5].

Coded as [3]:

Part Meaning
PSS construction type (structure, dielectric, terminals): polystyrene capacitor with tin foil
16 technological family („familia tehnologică”)
02, 03 package code („codul capsulei”)

The section of the series has no marking paragraph; by the code of subsection 2.1 the rated voltage of polystyrene capacitors is marked by a colour on the end next to the lead connected to the outer electrode (25 V blue, 63 V yellow, 160 V red, 250 V green, 630 V black, 1000 V black and in clear) [3].

The height of PSS 16.02 is printed 3.5 mm in the 2nd edition and 2.5 mm in the 1st, with a width of 8.5 mm; it is kept as printed [1][2]. Both codes share the value 4700 pF as a limit [1][2]. The second condition of the dissipation factor reads „Cn ≥ 1000 pF” in the 2nd edition and „Cn > 1000 pF” in the 1st [1][2].

Rated voltages are DC („Vcc”). Dimensions in mm (fig. 20.30): length A, width B, height H and lead spacing R, each ± 0.5; leads Ø 0.8, at least 20 mm long [1].
