Description
The Felix C-32 is a small third-generation computer developed at the computer institute ITC with the same architecture and operating system as the Felix C-256, for applications that did not need a large computer, and made by ICE Felix [1]. Its 32 kB memory was extended to 64 kB in the Felix C-64, and the Felix C32P was the process control version [1]. It did not need air-conditioned computer rooms with false floors and ceilings and ran from the ordinary mains, although it had to be kept free of dust, extreme temperatures and vibration [1]. It was meant for management tasks, process control, scientific and technical calculation and data collection or concentration [1]. It comprised the central unit, which had no decimal or floating-point instructions, a memory unit with two to four 16 kB ferrite core modules and page protection of 2,048 bytes, a multiple exchange unit working independently of the central unit, with digital and analogue input/output couplers for process control, and peripheral link units [1]. The SFC-32 operating system allowed multiprogramming, job chaining and automatic file management; it used the LAF Felix assembly language, FORTRAN and COBOL, and the DOS-32 and DOS-64M operating systems were written at ITC [1]. Felix C-32 and C-64 minisystems were among the computing equipment Romania exported to China, Syria, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Poland and Hungary, serviced by IIRUC [1].
