History

Rom Control Data was the first Romanian–American joint venture [1]. It was set up in 1973–1974 by the Romanian state (55%) and the American Control Data Corporation (45%), and produced disk drives, magnetic tape units and printers, which helped make Romanian computers competitive for export [1][2].

The site after 1989

It was one of the first joint ventures in communist Romania and the first Romanian-American one; it assembled computer peripherals, at first from imported parts, while the mechanical parts were gradually made by other factories on the platform [4]. Around 2011 its building, almost hidden by vegetation, still stood near the computer factory [4].

In 1989

In 1989 Rom Control Data (RCD) was listed as a mixed limited-liability company (societate mixtă cu răspundere limitată), within the Industrial Central for Electronics and Computer Technology (CIETC) of the Ministry of the Electrotechnical Industry [3].
