Description
The Cromatic 01 is a 67 cm colour television set made by Electronica in Bucharest with East German kits, with an eight-position electronic channel programmer and LED indicators [1]. Its 56 cm companion was the Telecolor 4106 [1].
The second series, the Telecolor 4106 and Cromatic 01, was completely different from the first: both used the same vertical chassis, and only the channel programmer and audio amplifier differed [1]. The decoder and video path used MCA 640/650/660 and A 232D (TDA2532) circuits; a surface-acoustic-wave filter in the IF path simplified adjustment, and the A 241 (TDA2541) IF circuit made the separate AFC module unnecessary; the focus voltage came from a high-voltage potentiometer instead of an unreliable resistive divider [1]. An audio-video module with a DIN socket at the back made recording on a video recorder easy [1].
Romania adopted the PAL colour system by political decision; since Electronica could not yet make colour sets on its own, after an offer from Körting fell through it bought kits from RFT in East Germany, a good choice: the sets were reliable and easy to make and to service [1]. Two categories were made with East German kits until after 1990, the Telecolor (56 cm) and the Cromatic (67 cm), without remote control, which mattered little given how few programmes could be received; colour monitors for computers were also built on their structure [1]. The design team was coordinated by Mihai Silișteanu, with an important role for Gunther Pflanzer [1].
