Description
The Miraj 3 E 59-690 is a black-and-white tube television set of the Miraj–Venus family, made by Electronica in Bucharest, with a 59 cm, 110° picture tube [1]. The family was rated quality class II under the experimental standard STAS 7712/1967 [1]. It was supplied with an adaptor for 300 Ω antennas, and was also made in an “A” version with two EFT317S transistors in the sound IF stage [1].
Production of the Miraj–Venus series began in 1968 and brought Electronica’s sets to the top international level; in 1967–1968 Philips equipment was installed for making deflection coils, line transformers and high-impedance (750 Ω) loudspeakers, together with a potentiometer line under a Dralowid licence [1]. The design was considered to match world standards, except for the old, inflexible and expensive Orega-type turret tuner, the weak point of the series [1]. In 1968–1972 more than 1.2 million sets were made on the Miraj chassis, with tubes kept in the power stages: PCL86 and PL84 for audio, with no output transformer and a 750 Ω loudspeaker, PCL85 for vertical sweep, PCF802, PL500, PY88 and DY87 for horizontal sweep and EHT, and PFL200 or PCL200 (PCL84) for sync separation and video, 14 tubes in all [1]. A first step to the new was the sound IF stage with an IPRS EFT317S transistor and EFD115 ratio-detector diodes; the series also introduced automatic frequency and phase control of the line oscillator and dropped the sound output and vertical blocking transformers [1]. Fewer external controls were needed thanks to automatic circuits: AGC, phase and frequency comparator, automatic size control, black-level clamping, spot suppression at switch-off and soft start [1]. The sets were named after the series, with picture tubes of 47, 59 and 65 cm: Miraj E 59-681, 684, 690, 700, Venus E 47-682, 690, 692, 693, Modern E 47-700, Olimp E 47-710, Clasic E 59-702 and Lux E 65-701 [1]. In the “A” versions (Miraj E 59-681A, Miraj 2 E 59-684A, Miraj 3, Venus E 47-682A, Venus 2 E 47-690A, Venus 3 E 47-691A, Venus 4 E 47-692A) the PFL200 was replaced by a PCL84 and the sound IF had two EFT317S transistors, for better sound with weak antenna signals [1].
Other models of the same group: Miraj E 59-681, Miraj 2 E 59-684, Miraj 4 E 59-700, Venus E 47-682, Venus 2 E 47-690, Venus 3 E 47-691, Venus 4 E 47-692, Venus 5 E 47-693, Modern E 47-700, Olimp E 47-710, Clasic E 59-702, Lux E 65-701.
In the source table, video sensitivity is given for 6 V rms on the picture-tube cathode, the signal-to-noise ratio on the sound path, and the selectivity values are, in order, the rejection of the own sound carrier and of signals below and above the picture carrier (and, where given, of the IF and the image frequency); the audio response is at −3 dB [1].
