Description

The RTN 10.467 is a ship radiotelephone, a complex radio station that could work as a fixed, mobile or portable unit, simplex or semi-duplex, adapted to each ship, made by IEMI in Bucharest [1]. IEMI made 410 of this base model up to 1985, at 69,700 lei each, plus ten batches of 842 sets configured to order and 8,281 accessories; production continued after 1985 [1]. IEMI made radiotelephones under a licence bought in 1968 from the Swedish firm SRA (Svenska Radio Aktiebolaget), later modernised by IEMI itself; they were used in industry, on the railways, in rescue services, agriculture, transport, construction, by the police and the fire brigade [1].

IEMI’s production table lists the 410 base units in 1980–1985, with control units, differential units, microphone assemblies, junction units, antennas and cables [2]. A control unit cost 9,000 lei, a micro-receiver 1,100 lei and an antenna with cable 2,550 lei (prices set in 1982) [3].

Annex III.2.15 identifies this ship radiotelephone as the R 6401 (code 10.467), which became the R 6402 after modernisation; ICE’s table names Tehnoton as the maker of the R 6401 and the R 6402. Production continued after 1985. The prospectus for the RTN R-6401 and RTN-6402 describes a VHF set for sea-going and river ships, for links between ships or with the port, installed with one to five control units, one of them the main unit; it comprised a transceiver unit with synthesiser, duplexer and power supply, the control units with loudspeaker and micro-receiver, and distribution and junction units. It had 65 channels (55 international and 10 private) 25 kHz apart, transmitted on 156.025–157.675 MHz with 20 W (1 W reduced) and received on 156.300–157.675 MHz in simplex or 160.625–162.275 MHz in duplex, with a sensitivity better than 0.9 µV [4].
