Description

The HAM is a paper capacitor for the starting and running of asynchronous electric motors, in a cylindrical can 60 mm in diameter and 146 mm long, with two solder tags and an M8 mounting stud [1]. The Agenda radioelectronistului (2nd edition, 1989) gives three values: 4 µF at 250 V, 2.5 µF at 400 V and 3.75 µF at 380 V [1].

The 1st edition (1983) calls the series „HAM 27.84” and gives a single value, 20 µF at 400 V AC, with the same drawing and the same other characteristics [2]. The 2nd edition prints its voltages only as „V” [1].

The Agenda does not say which works made the series: for the whole section on capacitors made in Romania it lists IPEE Electroargeș of Curtea de Argeș, Tehnoton of Iași, IIS Electronica of Bucharest and IPRS Băneasa as producers, and the 1st edition (1983) names only the first three [3][4]. It was made by IPRS Băneasa, which also designed the HPA and HSA paper capacitors put into production in 1972 [5].

In the book’s list of letter codes HAM stands for paper capacitors for starting motors; following the general scheme, 27.84 would be the technological family (27) and the package code (84), but the book does not say so for this series [3][4]. The capacitors are marked in clear with the climatic category and the other characteristics – nominal capacitance, tolerance and rated voltage; the book’s example is an HMC 33 02 marked „0,25 µF ± 20% 150 Vcc” and „10/070/74” [3]. The drawing shows the marking area on the can [1].

Dimensions in mm (fig. 20.10): Ø 60 ± 1.5, height 146; solder tags 10 ± 2 mm high and 15 ± 1 mm apart; M8 stud 12 mm long [1].
