Description

The Elcrom is a colour television set made by Electronica in Bucharest with Soviet kits [1]. Its PAL-SECAM decoder, designed by Gunther Pflanzer, was made at Electronica, since the original Soviet decoder handled SECAM only; the sound IF module was redesigned by Eugen Ștefan for both OIRT and CCIR (B/G, D/K) sound [1]. Later versions were the Elcrom 01 and Elcrom 02 [1].

Demand for colour sets was huge despite their high price, so Electronica also imported kits from the Soviet Union (Lvov) for a cheaper set with a 51 cm, 110° self-converging picture tube, sold as the Elcrom [1]. The Elcrom chassis proved robust, but the Soviet picture tubes caused problems: premature wear, spot burn and convergence errors [1].
