Description
The Național VS 59-663 is a black-and-white tube television set with a 59 cm screen, made by Electronica in Bucharest using the circuit of the Grigorescu and partly Romanian components [1]. Its three printed-circuit boards carry the video-sound, sync and sweep, and horizontal linearity circuits; the main controls are on the front, contrast, brightness, tone and frame frequency on the side, and the service adjustments at the back [1].
Its chassis was not isolated from the mains: the aerial was separated from it only by a coupling capacitor, and mains plugs of the time had no earth and could be inserted either way round [2]. One set sold in the countryside apparently caused the death of a child who touched the aerial in wet weather; the internal inquiry found that the insulation of the coupling capacitor should have been tested in production [2].
In the source table, video sensitivity is given for 6 V rms on the picture-tube cathode, sound sensitivity for 50 mW output, the selectivity values are, in order, the rejection of the own sound carrier, of the lower adjacent sound carrier, of the upper adjacent picture carrier, of the IF and of the image frequency, and the audio response at −3 dB [1].
