Description

The Grigorescu VS 59-633 was a de luxe black-and-white television set with a 59 cm, 110° picture tube, made by Electronica in Bucharest from 1963 with kits from the Japanese firm Sanyo [1]. It was the works’ top model until 1965, in an elegant cabinet with good acoustics [1]. Its successor was the Grigorescu 1965 [1].

Its four modules are the video-sound IF, the sound IF with FM demodulator, and the sync separator with the phase comparator and the line and frame oscillators [1]. A version with the same circuit and some Romanian components was the Național VS 59-663 [1].

In December 1963 eight Grigorescu sets, adapted to the CCIR standard used in Yugoslavia, were taken to Belgrade as a gift from Gheorghiu-Dej to Yugoslav leaders; they were checked on the Zagreb, Ljubljana and Belgrade programmes before being installed [2].

In the source table, video sensitivity is given for 6 V rms on the picture-tube cathode, sound sensitivity for 50 mW output, the selectivity values are, in order, the rejection of the own sound carrier, of the lower adjacent sound carrier, of the upper adjacent picture carrier, of the IF and of the image frequency, and the audio response at −3 dB [1].
