Description
The Sirius with 2 integrated circuits is a black-and-white television set made by Electronica in Bucharest from 1978, with a 51 cm screen [1].
The sets with 2 integrated circuits carried the same names as the 5–6 IC sets, with a different middle digit in their designation (for example 121 instead of 161, 222 instead of 262); designed for economy, they were standard sets of quality class III [1]. Supplying 3 million linear integrated circuits a year for television production proved difficult, so in 1976 Octavian Juncu, then technical director at the Central, ordered a single-board chassis with maximum transistorisation and only the circuits available in Romania: the ZTC33 stabiliser and the TAA661 [1]. The design, by engineer Cezar Constantinescu, reused parts of the H2 and IC sets; the only imported active component was the BU205 line output transistor [1]. Seen as a waste of time until the autumn of 1977, when IC television production nearly stopped, it was approved in February 1978, and more than 40,000 Snagov and Sirius sets were made in March–June 1978 [1]. Production lasted about two years; from 1980 the 2-IC set was also made in North Korea, in a factory built by the Romanian state with an important contribution from Electronica [1].
Other models of the same group: Snagov (2 IC), Diamant (2 IC).
