Description

The E0709 is a logic circuit tester, made by IEMI in Bucharest and designed at the ICE research institute [1].

ICE’s laboratory for electronic instruments for measuring electrical quantities designed all the institute’s generations of oscilloscopes, voltmeters, multimeters, signal generators, frequency meters, logic analysers, RLC bridges and stabilised AC power supplies; they went into production at IEMI or in ICE’s own microproduction workshop, and equipped industrial laboratories and production lines as well as teaching and research laboratories [1]. In the 1970s and 1980s about half of the components of measuring instruments were imported; after 1980 about three quarters were Romanian [1].

It comes with an SL logic probe and a PL logic pulser [2]. IEMI’s production table lists 1,210 units made in 1982–1985 [2].

Its list price, set in 1982, was 2,330 lei [3].

According to annex III.2.10, the SL logic probe detected single pulses, pulse trains (up to 50 MHz) and logic states with a purpose-designed integrated circuit holding two identical, independent channels, each with a threshold detector, a buffer amplifier and a flip-flop driving an LED; the PL pulser changed the logic state of the tested point by injecting a logic 0 or logic 1 pulse. Both worked from 5 V DC, measured 16 mm in diameter and 150 mm in length, weighed 120 g each and withstood ±45 V at the input [4].
