Description

The E0202 is a universal counter, made by IEMI in Bucharest and designed at the ICE research institute [1].

ICE’s laboratory for electronic instruments for measuring electrical quantities designed all the institute’s generations of oscilloscopes, voltmeters, multimeters, signal generators, frequency meters, logic analysers, RLC bridges and stabilised AC power supplies; they went into production at IEMI or in ICE’s own microproduction workshop, and equipped industrial laboratories and production lines as well as teaching and research laboratories [1]. In the 1970s and 1980s about half of the components of measuring instruments were imported; after 1980 about three quarters were Romanian [1].

It is a seven-digit universal counter with Nixie tubes and interchangeable plug-in units: the E0202 B voltage converter, the E0202 C frequency converter and the E0202 D chronometer [2]. IEMI’s production table lists 1,261 units made in 1973–1978; 762 voltage converters, 515 frequency converters and 105 chronometer plug-ins were also made [2].

Annex III.2.7 says it was built with semiconductor devices on printed circuit boards and measured frequency up to 20 MHz, period, the ratio of two frequencies and time intervals, with a resolution of 50 ns; the E0202 B plug-in converted DC voltages of 100 µV – 1000 V into a frequency, and the E0202 C extended the frequency range to 100 MHz [3].
