Description
The E0306 is a digital multimeter, made by IEMI in Bucharest and designed at the ICE research institute [1]. IEMI made the zero series, but production was stopped for lack of imported components [1]. Its designer gives 1978 as the year its prototype was approved, while the laboratory’s table gives 1983 [1][2]. It was the last ICE prototype built with free samples of Western components for all the critical parts; its weak point was the large number of adjustments [2]. One of the three prototypes, checked four years later without ever having been recalibrated, was still within its specifications [2].
ICE’s laboratory for electronic instruments for measuring electrical quantities designed all the institute’s generations of oscilloscopes, voltmeters, multimeters, signal generators, frequency meters, logic analysers, RLC bridges and stabilised AC power supplies; they went into production at IEMI or in ICE’s own microproduction workshop, and equipped industrial laboratories and production lines as well as teaching and research laboratories [1]. In the 1970s and 1980s about half of the components of measuring instruments were imported; after 1980 about three quarters were Romanian [1].
It measures DC and AC voltage and current, and resistance [3]. IEMI’s production table lists 10 units made in 1981 [3].
Annex III.2.8 gives DC voltage from 10 µV to 1000 V, AC voltage from 100 µV to 350 V (40 Hz – 100 kHz) and resistance from 10 mΩ to 20 MΩ; unlike the chapter text, it lists no current measurement [4].
