Description

The E0506 is a signal generator, made by IEMI in Bucharest and designed at the ICE research institute [1].

ICE’s laboratory for electronic instruments for measuring electrical quantities designed all the institute’s generations of oscilloscopes, voltmeters, multimeters, signal generators, frequency meters, logic analysers, RLC bridges and stabilised AC power supplies; they went into production at IEMI or in ICE’s own microproduction workshop, and equipped industrial laboratories and production lines as well as teaching and research laboratories [1]. In the 1970s and 1980s about half of the components of measuring instruments were imported; after 1980 about three quarters were Romanian [1].

It gives modulated RF signals from 0.45 to 250 MHz; it is listed among the generators made after 1985, and the production table lists two units made in 1985 [2].

Annex III.2.9 says it gave only sine RF signals, amplitude-modulated (up to 80%) or frequency-modulated (deviation up to 640 kHz, depending on the frequency); it could be swept externally to plot the response of narrow-band filters, and an internal synchroniser kept its frequency stable to 10⁻⁶. The output ranged from 0.1 µV to 1 V up to 125 MHz and from 0.25 µV to 0.5 V above, and the frequency was shown on five LED digits. The text gives 0.45–250 MHz, the table 0.45–248 MHz [3].
