History

ICCE (Institutul de Cercetare pentru Componente Electronice, the Research Institute for Electronic Components) was the Romanian research centre for semiconductor devices and other electronic components, working alongside IPRS Băneasa in the north of Bucharest.

From CCPCE to ICCE

It was established in 1969 as the Research and Design Centre for Electronic Components (CCPCE), on the grounds of IPRS but independent from it, and by 1974 it had become ICCE and moved to a new headquarters next to IPRS [1]. It developed semiconductor products from the first experiments to pilot production, after which mass production was handed over to IPRS; after 1979 it also manufactured transistors, diodes, integrated circuits, optoelectronic and microwave devices [1].

According to Electronica românească, a special section for silicon transistors and integrated circuits for computers set up at IPRS in 1971 became the Research Centre for Electronic Components (CCSIT-CE; Centrul de Cercetare Științifică și Inginerie Tehnologică pentru Componente Electronice) in 1978, working on the same site [2]. In 1989 CCSIT-CE was listed at 32 B Erou Iancu Nicolae Street, next to IPRS, with the ICCE logo and a second logo (see the gallery below), and used the same telex number as IPRS [3].

After 1989

ICCE was split into several sections and largely reunited in 1996 as the Institute for Microtechnology (IMT). IMT still existed in 2020, but had lost its commercial manufacturing capability and its industrial partners, IPRS and Microelectronica [1].
